Sustainability at Empower – where are we now?
This year, our work on sustainability has progressed calmly but surely. At the beginning of the year, we announced our commitment to the five UN Sustainable Development Goals which support and advance the Group's sustainability objectives.
Business, people and environment are the cornerstones of sustainability at Empower. We measure, monitor and report on the achievement of the targets under these areas in our operations on a quarterly basis. In 2019, we have already achieved good results in some of the targets: for example, the number of serious injuries, the health rate of our personnel and the level of CO2 free electricity generated from renewable sources are at a good level.
Sustainability supports Empower Group's strategic goals and the creation of a smart society. All of our operations are guided by the Code of Conduct. In this regard, we reformed our policies with more focused priorities in the spring. The reformed policies, occupational health and safety, environmental and quality policy, set high standards for our operations also in terms of sustainability.
During 2019, we have focused on increasing sustainability in our operations, especially through internal communication and training. The performance activity of the updated environmental course has been selected as one of the Group's sustainability indicators in 2019. In developing the areas of sustainability we strive to use internally the same principles that have already produced good results in occupational safety. Our goal is to organize workshops for the Group management during the autumn of 2019 where we will also agree on the sustainability priorities for the next year.
At Empower, it is important for us to promote our commitment to sustainability. However, we don’t believe to meet our targets overnight. We strive to achieve the targets through careful, high-quality work and commitment, step by step. We are on our way towards even more sustainable Empower!
