Finnish Utilities Share Digital Platforms

25.06.2019

A few years ago, new Finnish market requirements demanded that all electric metering points was to be measured every hour. Also, Balance Settlement was based on these hourly measurements. Processing Energy metering data, delivery quality metering and meter events & alarms required investing in IT platforms, which can handle the huge growth in data volumes and provide scalable processing capabilities. The listed changes impacts mainly DSO’s. Now, the Swedish market is facing very similar changes.

In parallel, the introduction of national data hubs, the Supplier centric model and the Nordic Retail market as well as integrating with the European Grid drives big changes also for retailers. In this rapidly changing environment, many utilities want to join forces to invest in shared digital platforms, shared expert resources – or even outsource whole processes. The alternative can be prohibitively expensive - especially for a small player.

Having experienced these changes already, the Finnish utilities have already formed alliances and implemented shared platforms for both meter data management and for customer information management. Four big alliances already have shared platforms in operation. Empower has delivered three of these.

EnerimCIS is a unique platform

A shared platform needs to be able to manage several companies in parallel using the same system. This ability is called multi-tenancy. The Empower Enerim platform is unique in its ability to provide multi-tenant CIS functionality on top of the multi-tenant MDM.

Using our own market leading platform, we are currently delivering CIS services to multiple customers in several Nordic countries as Cloud/SaaS services. For some, we manage the whole operations. Also, we provide staffing offers where our experts offload your staff during peak hours or during off hours or vacations.
